Cleveland, GA — The Lady Barons wrapped up the Bear Invitational on Saturday, sweeping Milligan University in the quarterfinals before falling to host Truett McConnell University in a five-set semifinal battle. The Lady Barons finished the weekend 4-1 and moved to 8-2 overall on the season.
BPCU entered bracket play as the No. 2 seed after going undefeated on Friday and wasted little time against No. 7 seed Milligan. The Lady Barons controlled all three sets, winning 25-13, 25-17 and 25-10 to complete the sweep and advance to the semifinals.
Patrycja Kabala and Nicolly Chaves led the attack with six kills each, while Gianna Anschutz added four. Brewton-Parker also delivered 13 service aces, led by Alya Atamer with three. Taylor Lamontagne recorded 10 assists, while Gaia Cordova added eight. Alana Garcia led the defense with 10 digs.
The semifinal set up a rematch with Truett McConnell, which BPCU had swept one day earlier. The Lady Barons came out strong, taking the first two sets 26-24 and 25-20 to move within one set of the championship match. TMU responded by taking the third and fourth sets 25-14 and 25-11, forcing a decisive fifth. The Bears completed the comeback with a 15-13 win in the final set to take the match 3-2.
Ana Villarreal led BPCU with 12 kills, while Kabala finished with 10 and Chaves added eight. Lamontagne recorded 21 assists and 11 digs, while Daniela Galarza added 13 assists. Jessie Gober was strong from the service line with six of BPCU's 14 aces, and Ryann Prince led the defense at the net with four blocks.
Despite falling short of the championship match, the Lady Barons leave Cleveland after winning four of five matches at the Bear Invitational and eight of their first 10 matches of the 2026 season.
Brewton-Parker will return to action Friday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., traveling to Savannah, Georgia, to take on Savannah State University. The matchup will be the second meeting between the two teams this season after the Lady Barons defeated the Tigers 3-2 at home on Sept. 1.
