Mount Vernon, GA — Brewton-Parker Women's soccer returned home Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Spartanburg Methodist College in a tightly contested match.
The Lady Barons struck first in the 28th minute when Gabriela Munoz found the back of the net off an assist from Daria Cwynar, giving BPCU a 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as Spartanburg Methodist's Camila Moscoso converted a penalty kick just over a minute later to even the match at 1-1. The score remained tied heading into halftime.
Spartanburg Methodist broke the tie in the 64th minute as Moscoso scored her second goal of the afternoon to put the Pioneers ahead 2-1. Brewton-Parker continued searching for the equalizer but was unable to break through before the final whistle.
BPCU finished with 13 shots, including three on goal, while Spartanburg Methodist recorded 15 shots with 10 on frame. Cwynar and Laura Marin led the Lady Barons with four shots apiece, while Munoz recorded two shots and BPCU's lone goal. Angel Camacho played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with eight saves.
The Lady Barons move to 1-3 on the season and will look to bounce back at home on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they host Toccoa Falls College at 4 p.m.
