Mount Vernon, GA — Brewton-Parker Men's soccer held Spartanburg Methodist College scoreless for more than 74 minutes Wednesday night before a pair of late goals handed the Barons a 2-0 loss at home.
The two sides went into halftime scoreless after BPCU created several opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. André Xavier, Aleksa Dragosavljevic, William Bayles and Shay McEnroe each put shots on goal during the first half, but Spartanburg Methodist goalkeeper Joshua Hazelton kept the Barons off the board.
The match remained tied deep into the second half before Spartanburg Methodist finally broke through. Anthoney Bedolla Menera scored in the 75th minute off an assist from Steve Ouattara before striking again less than a minute later, this time assisted by Erick Martinez-Bedolla, to quickly give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage.
Brewton-Parker finished the night with 12 shots and five shots on goal, compared to 19 shots and five on frame for Spartanburg Methodist. Xavier, Dragosavljevic, Guillem Ropero and Biel Ibanez each recorded two shots for the Barons. Diego Carrera finished with three saves in goal.
The Barons will look to bounce back Saturday, Sept. 5, when they remain at home to host Milligan University at 1 p.m.
