Hattiesburg, Miss — The Barons opened Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday night, falling 12-0 to William Carey University.
William Carey took control in the opening half, scoring five times to take a 5-0 advantage into halftime. The Crusaders added a goal just seconds into the second half before pulling away with six more goals over the final 19 minutes.
The Barons found more opportunities after the break, recording all six of their shots in the second half. Andre Xavier put BPCU's lone shot on goal in the 64th minute, while Iker Galvez finished with two attempts. Aitor Novoa, Uros Andjelic and Tymathe Prince also recorded shots.
Brewton-Parker's goalkeepers combined for 12 saves against 24 shots on goal. Diego Carrera recorded nine saves in just under 58 minutes of action, while Lukas Quevedoo added three saves over the final 32 minutes.
William Carey finished with a 41-6 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks. The Barons recorded all three of their corners in the second half.
The loss moves Brewton-Parker to 0-6-1 overall and 0-1 in SSAC play.
The Barons will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to face Xavier University of Louisiana.
