Hattiesburg, Miss — Brewton-Parker Women's Soccer opened Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday evening, falling 8-0 to William Carey University.
William Carey jumped out to an early advantage, scoring in the second minute before adding four more goals in the opening half to take a 5-0 lead into the break. The Lady Barons held the Crusaders scoreless for the first 35 minutes of the second half before William Carey added three late goals.
Brewton-Parker struggled to generate opportunities against the William Carey defense, finishing with two shots in the match. Mikayla Johnson recorded the Lady Barons' lone attempt in the first half, while Laura Marin added a shot in the second. William Carey finished with 57 shots, including 32 on goal, and held a 20-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Despite the pressure, goalkeeper Angel Camacho put together a busy night in goal, recording 24 saves while playing all 90 minutes.
The loss moves Brewton-Parker to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in SSAC play.
The Lady Barons will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to face Xavier University of Louisiana.
