Barons Take Down Night Hawks

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to Thomasville, Ga., to take on the Night Hawks of Thomas University on April 8, 2026, in an SSAC doubleheader. The Barons rallied in both games, taking game one 3-2 after a sixth-inning go-ahead run, and game two 7-4 after a sixth-inning rally to tie the game and a seventh-inning rally to take the lead.

Game one saw the Barons scoring first in the opening inning. Tori Wright drew a walk, stole third, and came home on Anna Green's RBI double to right for a 1-0 lead. Brewton-Parker added another run in the fourth when Shelby Aiken singled down the left-field line to score Jenny Braddy and make it 2-0. Thomas pulled even in the bottom of the fifth, its most productive inning of the day, scoring off an RBI double to left and a passed ball to tie the game at two.

The Barons responded in the sixth. Samantha Mathews helped start the threat with a double to left, and Wright later doubled as Brewton-Parker pieced together the go-ahead rally. Destiny Lucas then delivered the key hit, a single through the left side that brought home Aiken for the game-winning run and a 3-2 advantage. Mathews handled the rest from the circle. The Brewton-Parker starter worked all seven innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out one on 94 pitches. She also contributed at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double.

The Barons opened the scoring in game two thanks to Wright scoring on an error, but gave up a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game. The Barons scored again in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from Hannah Rust. The Barons then trailed 4-2 after Thomas put together a three-run stretch across the second and third innings. The Barons would turn it around in the top of the sixth when Wright started the rally with a single, stole second, and later scored on a throwing error by the center fielder to pull Brewton-Parker within a run. The Barons tied it later in the inning when Destiny Lucas scored on a fielding error by the catcher, evening the game at 4-4. Wright would come up big again for the Barons at the top of the seventh, hitting a bases-clearing double to drive in three runs and give the Barons a 7-4 lead. Maeleigh Burns, who came in relief of Natalie O'Neal in the fourth inning, would handle the Night Hawks offense, giving up just two hits in relief and grabbing the win.

The Barons will return to Mount Vernon and prepare to host a doubleheader SSAC clash on April 10, 2026, when they host the Skyhawks of Point University.
