MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team traveled to Pulaski, Tenn., to take on the Firehawks of the University of Tennessee Southern in a doubleheader on April 17, 2026. The Barons dropped the seven-inning doubleheader 11-7 when a late-game comeback bid fell short, and dropped game two 11-4.
Game one saw the Firehawks break open a scoreless game with one run in the third, then seize control with five runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth. The Barons were held in check early, managing just six hits for the game, but the offense showed life in the final two innings. Michael Son delivered Brewton-Parker's first big answer in the sixth, sending a three-run home run down the right-field line to cut the deficit to 11-3.
Brewton-Parker kept pressing in the seventh. Marquette Gibson singled, Raul Morales reached and advanced, and Anthony Savarese doubled to help set the table before Diaz launched a three-run homer to left. The Barons scored four times in the inning and trimmed the margin to four, but Tennessee Southern closed out the comeback attempt before Brewton-Parker could get the tying run to the plate.
Game two saw the Firehawks strike first in the bottom of the second to claim an early 1-0 lead. The Barons would answer in the top of the third when Jack Morris hit an RBI single to score Son and tie the game. The Firehawks would break the game open in the bottom of the third, scoring five and two in the bottom of the second to push their lead to 8-1. Son would hit an RBI double to score Diaz in the top of the fifth, but the Firehawks would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Barons would have one final burst of offense from Anthony Savarese, who hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but the Barons would be unable to score again and fall short.
The Barons will turn around and play the final game of the series against the Firehawks on April 18, 2026, before returning to Mount Vernon for their final series of the year.
