Barons Drop Doubleheader vs Rams

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team hosted the Rams of the University of Mobile (Ala.) in a conference doubleheader on April 10, 2026. The Barons dropped both games in the doubleheader, losing game one 9-3 and the second game 9-8.

Game one saw the Rams take charge early and never give back control. In the first inning, Adrian Salas doubled and later scored, and Ethan Hilpert followed with a two-run single to center to put the Barons behind 2-0. Mobile added two more runs in the second on Ethan Plank's solo home run to center and an unearned run that scored when Trevor Murphy reached on a fielding error. By the time the fourth inning ended, the visitors had scored in three of the first four innings and had all the offense they would need.

The Barons showed some life late, beginning with a run in the fifth. Jeremi Lara drove in Marquette Gibson with an RBI single to get the Barons on the board. Lara struck again in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a two-run home run that accounted for Brewton-Parker's final two runs and gave him three RBI on the day.

Game two saw the Rams jump out to another early lead. The damage came early from Reed Wilson, who powered Mobile's offense with two home runs and six RBIs. His three-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning, and his two-run shot in the third helped stretch the lead to 7-2. Mobile later added a solo home run from Murphy in the sixth, then picked up an insurance run in the ninth on Wilson's run-scoring flyout.

The Barons answered with their biggest swing in the fifth. Fred Diaz launched a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-5, accounting for all three Barons runs in the inning and giving the home side momentum heading into the late frames. The Barons would give up one run in the top of the sixth and ninth to push the Rams' advantage to 9-5 before giving their all in a ninth-inning comeback attempt. The Barons would see Colson Smith drive in an RBI single, followed by a Caleb Strott sacrifice fly, and then another sacrifice fly from Marquette Gibson to put the Barons behind 9-8 with a runner on and two outs. The Barons' comeback bid would fall short, unable to bring in the tying run and dropping the series-deciding game 9-8.

The Barons will look to bounce back before playing the Rams again for a final time this year on April 11, 2026, in Mount Vernon.
