Barons Come Up Short Against Rams

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team hosted the Rams of the University of Mobile (Ala.) in a final game three matchup on April 11, 2026. The Barons were unable to complete their comeback bid late in the game, dropping the third and final game of the series 19-12.

The Barons fell behind early, giving up eight runs in the first four innings, before responding in the bottom of the fourth. Fred Guzman-Diaz opened the scoring for the Barons with a grand slam in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the Barons added two more when Jeremi Lara hit into a fielder's choice, sending home Jihad Guy. Michael Son would then follow it with an RBI single.

The Rams would score five runs in the sixth and then three runs in the top of the seventh to push their lead to 16-6. The Barons rallied in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the mercy rule when Zach Carlton hit a two RBI triple and then was driven in on a Diaz double. Guy would score in the eighth on a wild pitch, and Raul Morales would drive in two more with an RBI double, pushing the Rams' lead to four, trailing 16-12. The Barons would be unable to stop the Rams from scoring in the top of the ninth and failed to score in the bottom of the inning, losing the game.

The Barons will look to rally on the road as they prepare to face off against the Firehawks of the University of Tennessee Southern in another SSAC series starting on April 17, 2026.
