MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons flag football team hosted the Lions of Florida Memorial University on March 21, 2026. The Barons battled but fell short, dropping the game 12-6.
The Lions struck first in the first quarter after an interception gave them a short field. Making quick work but failing to convert the point after attempt put the Lions up 6-0. The Barons would again give the Lions a short field after failing to convert on a fourth-down try and fall behind 12-0 when the Lions scored their second touchdown of the day. Another failed point after try kept the Barons in the game, down by two scores.
The Barons' offense found its rhythm just before halftime. Quarterback SeAnna Johnson, who finished 7 of 17 for 51 yards and a touchdown, directed a late drive that finally broke through the Florida Memorial defense. With three seconds left in the second quarter, Johnson connected with Kinsley Gerenyi on a 10-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 12-6 heading into the half. The Barons missed their two-point attempt to trail six at the break. Brewton-Parker's offense outgained Florida Memorial overall, totaling 148 yards on 32 plays with 97 yards on the ground and eight first downs, but failed to outscore the Lions.
The second half saw both teams trade chances and continue to struggle to convert on fourth downs. Both teams finished the day with multiple interceptions, but neither team managed to score in the second half. The Barons had an opportunity to score to tie the game in the final moments of the fourth quarter, but were unable to get in the endzone.
The Barons will look to regroup before hosting the Skyhawks of Point University on March 28, 2026, in another Sun Conference showdown.
