MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to Pulaski, Tenn., to take on the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks in a doubleheader on March 20, 2026. The Barons struggled at the plate, getting shut out in game one, 8-0 and dropping game two 7-2.
Brewton-Parker threatened early in game one when Tori Wright opened the day with a single and later stole second, but Tennessee Southern starter Stella Gilbreath worked out of the frame and settled in. The Firehawks finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, using an RBI single to start the scoring before a three-run shot to left field made it 4-0. Another run came across later in the inning on a fielder's choice sequence to complete the five-run frame. The Firehawks would add two more in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule the Barons in game one.
Game two saw the Firehawks jump all over the Barons early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second. The Barons would answer with an RBI single from Madisyn Hallar and another RBI single from Maeleigh Burns to cut the lead to 4-2. Unfortunately, the Barons were unable to keep the Firehawks off the scoreboard as they tallied another run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings while shutting down the Barons' offense and taking game two.
The Barons will look to bounce back on March 21, 2026, when they travel to take on the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, in another SSAC doubleheader.
