MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team hosted the Rams of the University of Mobile on March 14, 2026, splitting the day, dropping game one 7-1 before bouncing back and taking game two 6-3.
Game one saw the Barons struggle to hit the Rams' starter, Avery Harrell. Mobile broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning and never trailed. The Rams added three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to steadily pull away. Brewton-Parker's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth when Anna Green delivered a solo home run to trim the deficit to 3-1, but the Barons were limited to just two hits in the contest. Harrell was efficient in the circle for Mobile, throwing a complete game and allowing only two hits and one run over 7.0 innings with two strikeouts on 73 pitches.
Game two saw the Barons turn the momentum in their favor with a more balanced offense and a clean defensive effort. The Barons struck first in the bottom of the first when Tori Wright reached and later came around to score on a sequence that included Mobile defensive miscues, staking Brewton-Parker to a 1-0 lead. Mobile briefly moved in front 2-1 in the third on a two-run single, but the Barons answered in the fourth when Dixie Justice roped a triple, and Wright followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-2 in favor of Brewton-Parker. In the bottom of the sixth, the Barons broke open a one-run game with three insurance runs. Destiny Lucas and Green each delivered RBI singles, and Morgan Willingham added an RBI fielder's choice to push the lead to 6-3.
Natalie O'Neal went the distance in the circle for the Barons in game two, scattering 11 hits over 7.0 innings while limiting Mobile to three runs. She struck out two and threw 88 pitches to secure the victory
Head Coach Madison Herrin reflected on the day, saying, "Hard-fought games today. We had to fight for every run against a very good Mobile team. We have some things to fix to get started for next week."
The Barons will host Georgia Gwinnett in a midweek doubleheader on March 17, 2026, before heading to Pulaski, Tennessee, to face off against the Firehawks of the University of Tennessee Southern, then head to take on the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University.
