Lady Barons Fall Short to Toppers

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons came up just short in a late comeback bid on February 3, 2026, falling 69-66 to Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers in Mount Vernon after a tightly contested finish decided at the free-throw line.

The Lady Barons trailed for most of the second half but stayed within striking distance behind a dominant effort from forward Chasity Degale, who finished with a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds. Blue Mountain's McKenzie Williams knocked down a free throw with 26 seconds remaining to make it 69-65, and Brewton-Parker's final push yielded just one free throw in the closing seconds to set the final margin at three.

Brewton-Parker continued to attack the paint and the glass, using physical interior play and second-chance opportunities to stay close, but Blue Mountain's efficiency from the field kept the Barons chasing.

The Lady Barons' defense and rebounding fueled a fourth-quarter surge. Brewton-Parker outrebounded Blue Mountain 38-25 overall, including 14 offensive boards, and forced 20 turnovers while collecting nine steals, but the Lady Barons were unable to steal the lead from the Toppers.

Degale led the charge offensively for Brewton-Parker, attacking the rim and drawing contact to go 11-for-14 at the free-throw line while adding two assists. The Lady Barons also shared contributions on the glass, using their size and effort to generate extra possessions and limit second chances for the Toppers.

Head Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the team's performance, saying, "Our fight was better today, but we didn't do enough to win. We had every opportunity to win tonight, but we couldn't get it done. A really good Faulkner team is rolling in here on Thursday. Our job is to be prepared to compete."

The Lady Barons will host the Faulkner Eagles on February 5, 2026, as they prepare for the final five games of the season. The Lady Barons will look to bounce back and get in the win column and spark a late-season win streak to make the conference tournament.
