Barons Fall to Eagles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons baseball team traveled to Montgomery Ala, to kick off conference play against the Eagles of Faulkner University on February 27, 2026. Despite an early pitchers' battle and a late rally, the Barons were unable to stop the Eagles offensively and dropped the first game of the series 5-7.

The Barons held an early edge behind a strong start from the offense in the fourth inning. After a scoreless first three frames, Michael Son ignited Brewton-Parker with a double and later came around to score on a wild pitch, giving them a 1-0 lead. That slim margin held until the bottom of the fifth, when Faulkner used a four-run inning to swing the game's momentum.

Faulkner strung together timely hitting and took advantage of a defensive miscue in that fifth inning with an RBI single to tie the game, a throwing error allowed another run to cross, and a sacrifice bunt brought in another run to cap the rally and put Brewton-Parker in a 4-1 hole. Faulkner added on in the sixth with a solo home run to left to make it 5-1, then plated two more insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI single and a fielder's-choice RBI for a 7-1 advantage.

The Barons refused to go away, responding with persistent pressure in the late innings. In the eighth, the Barons trimmed the deficit to 7-3 as Jeremi Lara drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Marquette Gibson reached on an error that allowed another run to score. That set the stage for a tense ninth, when Diaz connected for a two-run homer to bring the Barons within 7-5 and give Brewton-Parker life in its final at-bat. Despite their efforts, the late ninth-inning rally was not enough to erase the hole they found themselves in, dropping game one of the series.

The Barons will look to rally and bounce back on February 28, 2026, with a doubleheader against the Eagles, aiming to sweep and steal the series.
