MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons women's flag football team hosted the Milligan University Buffalo on February 21, 2026, and despite their best efforts, were shut out 24-0 in a tough game.
Milligan opened the scoring at the end of the first quarter, when Parker Bridges jumped a route and returned an interception 18 yards for a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion made it 8-0 and flipped early momentum after the Barons had battled through a field-position game. The Barons' defense answered with several stops, but Milligan continued to lean on its passing attack to move the ball.
In the second quarter, the Barons' defense was put in repeated short-field situations. Milligan quarterback Bridget Keyser connected with Ashton Whearley on a 23-yard touchdown strike, followed by another two-point pass for a 16-0 lead. Shortly after, an interception by Annabelle Rhodes and a 19-yard return to the Brewton-Parker 14 set up another short field. Keyser then found Lilly Rumrill on a 3-yard scoring pass, and another two-point conversion pushed the deficit to 24-0 before halftime.
Brewton-Parker settled in defensively after the break, holding Milligan scoreless in the third and fourth quarters despite the visitors' continued success through the air. The Barons forced longer drives and tightened coverage, limiting explosive plays aside from a 30-yard reception to Whearley in the third quarter. Brewton-Parker's defense also generated pressure, recording five sacks to slow Milligan's passing rhythm and keep the second-half margin from growing.
Offensively, the Barons struggled to consistently move the chains, finishing with 91 total yards on 35 plays and four first downs. Quarterback SeAnna Johnson completed seven passes for 77 yards while also contributing on the ground with 18 rushing yards on four carries, including an 11-yard run. However, three interceptions and the difficulty of playing from behind made sustained drives hard to come by against a Milligan unit that finished with multiple takeaways.
Head Coach Sheldon Miller reflected on his team's performance, saying, "We played another top 10 flag football program today, and our age showed up for the first time all season. We had plenty of opportunities during the game and did not capitalize on them. Defensively, we played a little shaky in the first half, but made some adjustments and responded well in the second half. Offensively, we had opportunities that we let slip through our hands. We will get back to it Monday. We give Glory to God, and we are growing every time we play."
The Barons will be back in action with a road trip to close out the month, taking on two conference opponents back-to-back. They start with Warner University on February 27, 2026, and then head to take on Webber International University (Fla.) on February 28, 2026.
