Loyola Outlasts Lady Barons in Four-Set Showdown

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Women's Volleyball closed out its weekend at home with a hard-fought four-set loss to Loyola University, falling 3-1. The Lady Barons moved to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Brewton-Parker came out strong in the opening set. The Lady Barons recorded 11 kills while hitting .280 and controlled the frame on their way to a 25-16 victory, taking an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set turned into a back-and-forth battle. BPCU finished with 12 kills, but Loyola managed to edge the Lady Barons 26-24 to even the match at one set apiece. The Wolf Pack carried that momentum into the third, hitting .348 and taking the frame 25-14 to move ahead 2-1.

Brewton-Parker refused to go quietly in the fourth. In the longest set of the afternoon, the two sides traded points deep into extra play. The Lady Barons continued to answer Loyola, but the Wolf Pack eventually escaped with a 32-30 win to close out the match.

The numbers reflected how close the match was. Loyola held just a 43-42 advantage in kills, while Brewton-Parker led 58-57 in digs and 10-7 in service aces. The Wolf Pack created its biggest advantage at the net, finishing with 11 blocks compared to four for BPCU.

Patrycja Kabala and Nicolly Chaves paced the Lady Barons with 11 kills apiece. Kabala added nine digs and three service aces, while Chaves added an ace. Ana Villarreal followed with eight kills and a team-high 11 digs.

Daniela Galarza directed the BPCU offense with 21 assists, while also recording nine digs and three aces. Taylor Lamontagne added 11 assists and seven digs, while Alana Garcia chipped in nine digs. Ryann Prince led the Lady Barons at the net with three block assists.

Brewton-Parker will hit the road next weekend, beginning with a trip to William Carey University on Friday, Oct. 9, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
