Mount Vernon, Ga — The Lady Barons battled to a 1-1 draw with Blue Mountain Christian University conference play The result moved the Lady Barons to 2-9-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference play.
The two sides played through a scoreless opening 45 minutes despite opportunities on both ends. Brewton-Parker produced six first-half shots, while Lena Szydlo came inches away from breaking the deadlock when her attempt struck the crossbar in the 37th minute. Goalkeeper Angel Camacho kept Blue Mountain off the board with seven first-half saves.
Blue Mountain broke through in the 54th minute when Nayelli Aguayo found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Brewton-Parker continued applying pressure and eventually found its answer.
In the 73rd minute, Daria Cwynar delivered the equalizer to bring the Lady Barons level at 1-1. Cwynar nearly struck again just over five minutes later, but her attempt hit the crossbar. She put another shot on goal in the 88th minute as BPCU continued searching for the go-ahead score before time expired.
Brewton-Parker finished the match with a 14-13 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Cwynar led the attack with seven attempts, including three on goal, while Laura Marin added five shots. Szydlo and Christen Summey each recorded one attempt.
Camacho played all 90 minutes in goal and turned away 11 of Blue Mountain's 12 shots on target, helping preserve the draw.
The Lady Barons will remain at home Saturday, Oct. 3, when they welcome UT Southern to Mount Vernon.
