Firehawks Prove Too Much for Lady Barons

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The Lady Barons continued conference play Saturday, falling 6-0 to the University of Tennessee Southern. The Lady Barons moved to 2-10-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference play.

Tennessee Southern got on the board early, with Millie Rayner scoring in the fifth minute before adding her second goal in the 15th. Brewton-Parker looked for an answer as McKenzie King put an attempt on target in the 14th minute, while Laura Marin followed with another shot on goal in the 21st.

The Firehawks added a third goal in the 38th minute to carry a 3-0 advantage into halftime. Despite the pressure from Tennessee Southern, goalkeeper Angel Camacho kept BPCU in the match with 11 saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Brewton-Parker held Tennessee Southern scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the second half before the visitors extended their advantage in the 71st minute. The Firehawks added two more goals in the 77th and 78th minutes to close out the scoring.

Camacho faced a busy afternoon in goal and finished with a season-high 18 saves while playing all 90 minutes. Tennessee Southern recorded 33 shots with 24 on goal, while BPCU finished with three attempts and two on target. King and Marin accounted for the Lady Barons' two shots on goal, while Daria Cwynar added an attempt.
