MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons kicked off the new year with a thrilling victory over the Life University Running Eagles on January 6, 2026. The Lady Barons set the pace early and never gave up control of the momentum inside Gillis Gymnasium. The Lady Barons started the second half of their campaign with a 73-59 victory.
The Lady Baron kicked off the afternoon, going on an 8-2 run to give them the edge, and kept the pressure on the Running Eagles. The Lady Barons had contributions from across the lineup to take a 19-10 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Barons continued their consistent play and solid defense in the second quarter, extending their lead to 12 points and taking a 12-point lead into the break, as the Running Eagles trailed 21-33.
The second half saw the Running Eagles do their best to close the gap, but the consistent scoring and defensive play of Andrian and Andranique Steward kept the Lady Barons on top. The Lady Barons pushed their lead to as many as 28 in the fourth quarter and managed to secure the win at 73-59 as the Running Eagles hit some late shots, but the lead was already insurmountable.
The Lady Barons had several standout performances from Andrain Stewart, who led the team in steals with three and rebounds with 12, to go with her 14 points on the day. Chastity Degale led the Lady Barons offense with 15 points and grabbed 11 boards for a double-double, and tacked on three assists, leading the team.
Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts on the team's performance. "We were really good for the majority of the game. Our group has to handle pressure better, and I believe we will be better in that area moving forward. We got a lot better over the break, and we were able to see that today."
With the victory, the Lady Barons improved to 2-1 in conference play and 3-11 overall. They will continue their conference schedule with another home game on January 8, 2026, hosting the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies in their second game of the week.
