MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Brewton-Parker Christian University hosted the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies in a conference showdown on January 8, 2026. Thanks to a dominant second quarter and a relentless effort on the glass, the Lady Barons managed to pull away from the Fillies to take them down in an 85-69 victory at Gillis Gymnasium. The Barons turned a four-point deficit after one quarter into a 12-point halftime lead, then maintained control the rest of the way behind balanced scoring and a 45-37 rebounding edge.
Trailing 19-15 after the opening quarter, Brewton-Parker flipped the game with a 25-9 advantage in the second. Shamiaha Webb's layup early in the frame knotted the score at 19-19, and the Lady Barons steadily built separation from there. Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn capped the surge by drilling a 3-pointer with five seconds left in the half, sending Brewton-Parker into the locker room ahead 40-28 and firmly in control.
The Lady Barons' momentum carried out of the break. Webb pushed the lead to 50-33 with a fastbreak layup at the 6:45 mark of the third quarter, and free throws by Andrian Stewart later in the quarter stretched the margin to a game-high 22 points at 56-34. Brewton-Parker outscored ABAC 21-17 in the third, taking a 61-45 cushion into the final 10 minutes and never allowing the Fillies to mount a serious comeback.
Abraham Baldwin found some offense in the fourth, matching the Barons with 24 points in the period, but Brewton-Parker consistently answered. Draughn opened the quarter with a jumper to make it 66-49, keeping the hosts comfortably in front. In the final minute, Jasmine Leynard buried a 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining to push the lead to 85-67, effectively sealing the outcome before the visitors added a late basket for the final 85-69 margin.
Head Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the team's performance, saying, "Today wasn't our best effort, but we won. Our group has to grow up and handle adversity better. We won't ever complain about a win, but we have to be a more consistent team."
The Lady Barons will continue their campaign, hosting the Night Hawks of Thomas University on January 10, 2026, at Gillis Gymnasium. The conference clash will give the Lady Barons a chance to build on their 3-1 conference record and keep adding wins to their overall 4-11 total.
