Barons Roll #18 Running Eagles

MOUNT VERNON, Ga.  - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons took down the #18 Life University Running Eagles in a thrilling conference clash at Gillis Gymnasium on January 6, 2026. The Barons rallied from a nine-point deficit at halftime to give the Running Eagles their first conference loss of the season.

The Barons showed excellent resiliency after a rough first half in which they went 0-10 from beyond their arc for the first time all season, failing to hit a three. Battling back from the 35-26 deficit at half helped elevate the Barons to their 11th win on the year. The Barons started the second half with an 11-3 run in the first four minutes to cut the lead to one. Gil Gonzalez and Tommy Tisdale III elevated their play in the second half to help with the comeback. Tisdale was automatic in the second half, putting 10 points on the board and not missing a single shot in the second half. Gonzalez dominated on both sides of the floor in the second half, adding 11 points, alongside three blocks and two steals to help the Barons come back.  The Barons managed to close out the game with Tommy Tisdale III hitting two free throws to ice the game with seconds left, leaving the final score at 67-61.

Head Coach Leonard Epps reflected on the team's performance, saying, "Really proud of how our guys rallied today. We struggled against that group earlier in the year, and despite being down nine at the break, we found a way to come together and buckle down. We played great team basketball in the second half and took control of the game. We look forward to keeping this momentum going into the rest of the week."

The Barons will host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallion on January 8, 2026, at Gillis Gymnasium. The conference clash will give the Barons another opportunity to improve their 11-3 and 3-1 record.
