Lady Barons Fall to #19 Crusaders

HATTIESBURG, MISS. -  Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons fell behind during a decisive second-quarter surge and could not recover in a 69-42 loss to the William Carey University (Miss.) Crusaders on January 22, 2026, in non-conference basketball action.

The Barons battled through a competitive opening 10 minutes and trailed just 11-10 after the first quarter, but the Crusaders used a 23-point second quarter to seize control and take a 34-19 lead at halftime.

William Carey gradually pulled away after the break. The Crusaders hit timely shots from the perimeter, including a 3-pointer from Brooklyn Cuevas early in the third quarter that extended the lead to 37-19. The Lady Barons continued to compete defensively and on the boards but had difficulty stringing together baskets against William Carey's half-court pressure.

Kaziah Terrell led the Barons with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals in 38 minutes, providing consistent effort on both ends. Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn added eight points. Despite best efforts, the Barons were unable to overcome the deficit.

Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts on the teams performance, "We were outclassed by a really good team. Our players are grinding, giving effort. We are hopeful to turn it around in conference soon."

The Lady Barons will look to regroup quickly before they head to take on the Wolf Pack of Loyola (La.) University on January 24, 2026. The Lady Barons will need a quick turnaround and strong performance against the receiving votes Wolf Pack as they look to get back into the win column.
