Barons Kick off Season With Road Win

MOUNT VERNON, Ga.  - Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons Men's Soccer team kicked off their 2025 campaign with a road game against Toccoa Falls College. The game was delayed for an hour due to thunderstorms that left the pitch in rough shape. Despite the conditions, the Barons knocked off the Screaming Eagles with a 2-1 win to start their 2025 season with a win.

The outstanding performance of Junior transfer Striker Ilyas Nazih boosted the Barons. Nazih transferred in from the University of Hassan II and is a native of Casablanca, Morocco. Nazih opened the scoring for the Barons in the 31st minute of the match to give the Barons a lead. The Screaming Eagles managed to answer just seven minutes later to bring the game back to even. Neither team was able to make anything happen and went into halftime tied at one.

The second half saw the Barons retake the lead with a spectacular goal from true freshman Daniel Rodriguez, assisted by Ilyas Nazih, to give the Barons a 2-1 lead. The Barons took the lead in the 54th minute of the match and played lockdown defense to keep the Screaming Eagles off the board and secure the victory.

Head Coach Bob Nuemann shared his thoughts on the team's opening performance. "Early season games are always difficult, as a fall sport players are still finding fitness, understanding systems, and overcoming some soreness. On top of that, the conditions made it more challenging; our hour thunderstorm delay left the surface as a mud bog. I'm proud of how the players handled those situations and still found a way to win.

We look forward to our home opener on Saturday, against an excellent CIU team."

The Barons return to Mount Vernon for a home game Saturday against Columbia International University out of South Carolina. The Barons kick off at 7 pm, following the girls' game against Warner University (Fla.)
