Barons Split with Firehawks in Conference Clash

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a thrilling conference softball doubleheader on April 8, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Barons secured a split, dropping game one 9-1 in five innings and earning a hard-fought 9-6 victory in game two against the Tennessee Southern Firehawks in Pulaski, Tenn. The win reflected a significant team effort and strategic play, enhancing their season record to 13-20-1.

Brewton-Parker saw notable performances from some of its players in game one despite a challenging game. Alyssa Usrey led the batting for the Barons with two hits, including singles in the second and fourth innings. Morgan Willingham also made a significant contribution with an RBI double in the fourth inning, marking the only run for Brewton-Parker during the game. Starting pitcher Kaylee Odum faced difficulties from the mound, completing 4.1 innings.

Several standout players led the charge for the Barons in game two; Tori Wright, Lexi Bradshaw, Alyssa Usrey, Morgan Willingham, Eboni Medina, Cailiyn Snellgrov, and Hannah Rust all crossed the plate, contributing to the team's robust scoreline. Alyssa Usrey notably drove in three runs, while Morgan Willingham added two crucial RBIs, including a key single that bolstered the team's momentum.

From the circle, starting pitcher Sam Matthews delivered a commendable performance, effectively managing the threats from the aggressive Firehawks' lineup. The game also included notable plays such as Hailey Gabrich's impactful double that also brought in a run, further highlighting the Barons' offensive prowess.

The Barons are set to face Thomas University in another conference doubleheader on April 12 in Thomasville, Ga.
