MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a challenging road game on February 13, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons fell to the Blue Mountain Christian Toppers with a final score of 77-69. Brewton-Parker, led by star performer
Chasity Degale, who scored 22 points and secured 11 rebounds, exhibited a valiant effort but couldn't win this crucial Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) basketball game.
The match started competitively, with Degale scoring the opening points. However, despite the Lady Barons' best efforts, Blue Mountain quickly took the lead and maintained it throughout the game. Coach
Steve Edwards addressed the loss, stating, "Road games are tough, and we didn't get it done. We had multiple opportunities late, but we struggled in those moments. Blue Mountain was better than us tonight when it mattered most. It's important that we put this one behind us because we have another big road game Saturday."
The game's halftime score stood at 45-37 in favor of Blue Mountain. Brewton-Parker managed to tie the game briefly in the second half, but the Toppers pulled away with key three-pointers, sealing their win. Apart from Degale, Brewton-Parker saw substantial contributions from
Destanee Wright with 20 points.
The Lady Barons displayed strong rebounding, particularly on the offensive side, yet turnovers and Blue Mountain's tight defense caused them to struggle. The team looks forward to rectifying these issues in their upcoming road game against UT Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee, on February 15, 2025.
Despite the loss, the Lady Barons currently hold a respectable record of 13-11 overall and 9-4 in the conference. Looking ahead, they aim to bounce back and regain their stride in the challenging SSAC landscape.
