Barons Come Up Short Against #9 Crusaders

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a challenging conference men's soccer game on October 2, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons were defeated at home in Mount Vernon by the William Carey University Crusaders, with a final score of 3-1. Despite a strong effort from the Barons, it was not enough to secure a win against their formidable opponents, the Crusaders.

The first half concluded with a 1-0 lead in favor of William Carey, keeping the Barons on their toes. The game intensified in the second half when Brewton-Parker player Ilyas Nazih, assisted by Andre Xavier, netted a tying goal at 61:48, leveling the game at 1-1. However, the Crusaders regained control later in the half, with Dennis Hamzic and Lewis Green scoring subsequent goals to secure their victory, while the Barons' goalie, Diego Alejandro Montes Carrera, demonstrated resilience, racking up a total of eight saves.

Reflecting on the game, Head Coach Bob Nuemann remarked on the team's performance, "For me, William Carey is one of the best in the country. They do a lot of things really well. Of course, I'm not happy with the outcome, but I'm pleased with the performance levels of the group tonight. They worked from the first minute to the last. If we can manage to play with that intensity all the time, things will turn around much sooner than later." The Barons gave the #9 Crusaders a challenge for 90 minutes.

Looking ahead, the Barons will confront the University of Mobile (Ala.) in Mount Vernon on October 4, 2025, aiming to improve on their record of 1-9 and 0-4 in conference as the season enters that final stretch.
