MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Soccer team started the conference campaign on the road against the Faulkner Eagles, hoping to get their first win of the season. Sadly, the Eagles had other plans and won the match two-nil. The Lady Barons conceded both goals in the first half and, despite holding them to none in the second, could not get anything past the Eagles' defense.
We met with Coach Phillip Borde and asked how he felt after a tough loss. "First, I just want to thank God for the opportunity to be around the sport of soccer. The match was hard-fought by Faulkner. They worked extremely hard off the ball to work their way into the game. Tactically, they executed what was being asked of them to the best of their ability. We fell short in a few key areas that will hurt you in the game of soccer. Some bright spots were that some players got some minutes for the first time and impressed the coaching staff. I will be going back to the drawing board and see where I can be better for the team. As always, we will regroup and get up for the next match."
First Half
The Lady Barons gave up the first goal in the 17th minute and the second just 40 seconds before the half ended. They were outshot 15-2 in the first half and outmatched. The Lady Barons had four saves in the first half. The Eagles had all the offense, with three corner kicks to the Lady Barons' zero.
Second half
The second half saw the Eagles continue their domination with another ten shots, forcing the Lady Barons to make seven saves. The Eagles led in every category except saves, as the Lady Barons only managed to get three shots on goal. The Lady Barons were on their heels and forced into playing defense. They could not stop the Eagles but managed to hold them to keep the deficit at two.
