MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Soccer team traveled to Point University to continue their conference campaign and were handed a tough five-nil loss. The Skyhawks wasted no time capitalizing on their scoring chances in the 7th minute of the match to take the one-nil lead and followed it up almost five minutes later to score again, adding to their lead. The Skyhawks would start the second half scoring in the 58th minute, then add another in the 60th minute, and just one minute and eighteen seconds later, to add their fifth goal. Angel Camacho made nine saves on the day before Coach Borde decided to pull her after giving up the fifth goal. Zoey Elliot came in relief, put up 20 minutes of no goals, and stopped the only shot on goal she faced.
We met with Coach Phillip Borde and asked how he felt after a tough loss. "I give God thanks for the opportunity as always. The performance was good in bits and pieces of the match but not for the entire 90 minutes. Our youth today showed some decision-making skills in key areas of the field. This is a game where the team with the least mistakes has a better chance of winning. Sadly, we were not that team today. We will continue strengthening the areas that must be built upon and the positive pieces we saw today for a more consistent performance."
First Half
The Lady Barons gave up 12 shots in the first half, and the Skyhawks took three corner kicks. This led to their two first-half goals early in the first half. Both teams played a clean match with few fouls in the first half, with the Lady Barons taking just one and the Skyhawks taking two. The Lady Barons did have two shots on goal in the first half but could not get anything by the Point keeper. Angel Camacho made six saves in the first half.
Second half
The second half saw the Skyhawks continue scoring fast and quickly back-to-back to complete their five-goal lead. Brewton-Parker pulled their goalie after the fifth goal, and the team managed to hold them to nothing after that. The second half saw Brewton-Parker make Points' keeper make three move saves but could not get anything by.
