MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Soccer team played a clean match against the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes until the final seconds of the game conceding the game winner with just one second left in the game. The Lady Barons played a fantastic match with strong defense and a couple of great scoring opportunities from Kathleen Fisher earlier in the second half. Despite that the Lady Barons offense was not enough to withstand the Hurricanes numerous shot attempts and corner kicks. Angel Camacho did all she could, making 19 saves but in the end was not able to stop a two on one in the final moments.
We caught up with Coach Phillip Borde and asked how he felt after a heartbreaking final second loss. "First and foremost, I just want to thank God for allowing us to play this beautiful game. I think the girls fought extremely hard defensively. The performance itself was much better than last week. We will go back to the drawing board and see where we can help in the attack. You are never happy with a loss, but we played a solid Georgia Southwestern and put in a solid shift."
First Half
The Lady Barons managed the game well and saw more spectacular saves from the always composed and confident Angel Camacho. The Lady Barons were forced to defend for most of the first half and conceded 12 shot attempts and Angel made ten saves. The Hurricanes led in fouls five to three.Â
Second half
The second half saw the Hurricanes with even more dangerous scoring chances ramping up with nine corner kicks. Angel was forced to make another nine saves in the frame. Despite having the chance to control the end of the game, mental errors resulted in a bad turn over forcing Angel into facing a two on one chance with just one second left and was unable to pull off another blood pressure spiking save.Â
