Barons Slip in Series Opener at (RV) William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Brewton-Parker Baseball hit the road to take on (RV) William Carey (Miss.) for a weekend SSAC series.

The Barons (16-19, 7-12 SSAC) slipped to the Crusaders (23-10, 13-6 SSAC) in an 11-4 loss to open the series.

How It Happened

The Barons opened the game with an RBI single from Jordan Rahn to score Zach Carlton for a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. The Crusaders responded with an RBI double and a two-RBI single to move to a 3-1 lead in the bottom half of the first.

William Carey moved to a larger lead with a two-RBI base hit in the second inning followed by a pair of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to move to a 9-1 advantage.

Brewton-Parker chipped away at the deficit with RBI singles from Samuel Sauzameda and Kyran Coleman to cut the WCU lead down to six runs. Rahn reached on a fielding error which helped score Carlton for a 9-4 game in the seventh.

The Crusaders connected for a two-run homer to shut the door in the seventh inning for an 11-4 lead.
