WEST POINT, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball returned to conference action on Friday evening with the series opener on the road at (RV) Point (Ga.).
The Barons (17-25, 9-16 SSAC) slipped to the Skyhawks (29-14, 15-10 SSAC) in a 10-4 defeat in West Point, Ga.
How It Happened
After a scoreless affair in the first inning, the Barons struck first in the top half of the second with
Kennard Dawson barreling a double and coming home on an extra-base hit from
Jacob Mantooth for a one-run lead.
Point responded in the bottom of the third inning with three runs scored after producing a pair of walks and scoring on a BPC error to take a 3-1 lead. The Skyhawks added another in the fourth with a solo homer for a three-run edge.
In the fifth, the Barons had a chance to pull closer to the hosts with a single from
Kendell Wade and a bunt from
Carson Kirby. Unfortunately, BPC left the pair stranded despite nearly bring a runner home with a Point error.
The Skyhawks added to the tally in the fifth inning with three hits to take a 5-1 lead before Brewton-Parker began battling back into the game in the sixth.
Tate Worrell and
Michael Son both notched singles as Dawson doubled for an RBI and Son scored on a balk to pull the Barons within a two-run deficit.
Point lit up the sixth inning with a total of six hits which were highlighted by a two-RBI triple and an RBI double to move to a 9-3 lead. After a leadoff double and a wild pitch, Point put their 10th run on the board with a wild pitch for a seven-run advantage in the seventh.
Brewton-Parker scored the final run of the game in the eighth inning with an RBI single from
Jack Morris to close out the game in a 10-4 defeat.
Inside the Statistics
- Point held a 13-10 margin in hits with Dawson leading the charge for BPC with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Dawson also notched two doubles with Mantooth recording one as well.
- Alex Muns (3-5) started on the bump and tossed 5.1 innings, allowing nine runs with six earned on nine hits. He struck out five batters and walked three also.
- Ryan Dopson pitched for 0.2 innings and walked a pair while giving up three hits for one earned run.
- Demoi Hodge closed the game with the final 2.0 innings, recording two strikeouts and just one hit.
