MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball dropped game three of the SSAC Series of the Week against No. 13 Loyola (La.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Barons (17-23, 9-16 SSAC) fell 6-5 to the Wolf Pack (31-11, 16-8 SSAC).
How It Happened
In the top of the first, Loyola picked up a hit and scored an unearned run after a leadoff error. The Barons responded in the bottom of the second inning when
Kennard Dawson walked to first then stole second and advanced around the bases to home plate from a pair of errors from the Wolf Pack catcher. Loyola took a 2-1 lead with two hits in the top of the third inning.
After three scoreless innings, the Barons picked up some steam in the bottom of the seventh with
Michael Son gathering a single and Dawson hitting a big two-run home run to take a 3-2 lead. in the eighth inning,
Kyran Coleman and Son walked to get on base. A single from Dawson scored Coleman, and a single from
Jordan Rahn scored Son giving the Barons a 5-2 lead.
In the top of the ninth, the Wolf Pack gathered a pair of singles and an error to load the bases before taking a 6-5 lead with a Loyola grand slam. The Barons were not able to answer back in the bottom of the ninth and took a 6-5 loss to end the series.
Inside the Statistics
- Brewton-Parker was behind 10-6 in hits with Dawson getting two hits and two runs.
- Son gathered one hit and two runs.
- Jacob Mantooth, Kendell Wade, and Rahn all gathered one hit each.
- Brandon Russell pitched 7.0 innings and produced seven strikeouts while giving up three walks, six hits, and two runs.
- Ty Cook (6-5) pitched 1.1 innings and recorded one strikeout while giving up four hits, four runs, and one walk.
- Ryan Dopson closed the final two-thirds of the ninth and got two strikeouts.
