Lady Barons Softball Spoils Eagles’ Sweep with Wright’s Game Two Walk-Off

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Softball returned to Southern States Athletic Conference action on Friday afternoon, playing host to Faulkner (Ala.) for a doubleheader in Mount Vernon.

The Lady Barons (23-15, 10-10 SSAC) earned a split with the Eagles (20-13, 13-7 SSAC) after slipping 3-1 in game one and winning 6-5 in walk-off fashion in the second contest.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 1, FAULK 3

Faulkner started the first inning with a lead-off single before utilizing a wild pitch and an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Skyler Strickland responded for the Lady Barons with a double in the bottom of the third inning.

Strickland advanced to third off a groundout from Ashley Wilson before Alexis Bradshaw walked. After the walk, Bradshaw stole second base and Strickland advanced to home with a missed throwdown from the catcher to level the score.

In the top of the fourth, the Eagles scored their second run with a hit and a sacrifice fly. In the top of the six, the Eagles produced a hit and capitalized on a BPC error to increase to a 3-1 advantage before holding the Lady Barons scoreless in the seventh for the win.

Inside the Statistics
  • BPC trailed 7-4 in hits as Strickland led with two hits and one run.
  • Hailey Gabrich gathered two hits and a walk.
  • Natalie O'Neal (11-7) pitched a complete game, gathering four strikeouts while giving up seven hits and two earned runs.

The Eagles opened the second game with a two-RBI triple in the first inning and followed with an RBI triple as well as an RBI bunt in the second inning to hold a 4-0 advantage. Faulkner added to the tally in the top of the third inning with a leadoff single followed by an RBI single for a five-run lead.

Brewton-Parker finally placed a run on the scoreboard in the third with a two-out triple down the right-field line off the bat of Wilson. Wilson crossed the dish with an RBI base hit from Bradshaw for a 5-1 scoreline.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Barons pulled within a one-run game in the bottom of the fifth. Wilson notched a two-out hit and was followed by another single to center from Bradshaw. Destiny Lucas notched three RBI on an inside-the-park homer to cut the BPC deficit to 5-4.

With a scoreless sixth passing, the BPC defense held Faulkner to just one hit in the seventh. The Lady Barons led with a pair of bunts from Chloe Strickland and Wilson to place a pair on. After a foul out from Bradshaw and a ground out from Lucas, Tori Wright came in clutch with a two-RBI single to right field for the walk-off victory.

  • Brewton-Parker held a 10-8 hit advantage with Wilson leading the charge after going 3-for-3 with three hits and three runs scored.
  • Bradshaw produced two hits and an RBI while Lucas led with three RBI.
  • Kira Altman pitched the first 1.1 innings and gave away three earned runs on three hits.
  • Maeleigh Burns earned her second win of the season, tossing 5.2 innings. Burns allowed five hits while giving away one earned run and walking two.
