MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball returned to Gillis Gymnasium to take on Middle Georgia in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup on Monday night.
The Lady Barons (15-8, 7-6 SSAC) dropped the Knights (5-14, 3-11 SSAC) convincingly, securing an 82-53 win in front of a home crowd.
"We were off all last week, but it was much needed," Head Coach
Steve Edwards said. "I thought we pressed well today, and I like how we closed the game. This week is a big week for us, and I believe we are ready for the challenge."
How It Happened | First Quarter
After a little over two scoreless minutes,
Angel McRae put up the first points of the game. The Lady Barons kept the pressure as McRae found six points and
Cori Keats put up a trey in a 9-4 stretch to go up 11-4 with 4:16 left on the clock.
In the last four minutes, both teams fought in a back-and-forth battle resulting in BPC coming out on top of a 12-7 stretch led by
A'Aliyah Clay and Keats with three each, and multiple others with two. Brewton-Parker ended the first quarter with a 23-11 lead.
How It Happened | Second Quarter
BPC attacked first nearly a minute into the second quarter with a trey from Clay to increase the lead to 15. The Knights cut the lead to 10 with 7:51 left to play, but the Lady Barons took a 7-0 run to give themselves a 33-16 lead.
The Knights took a 6-3 stretch over the next three minutes of the game to cut the Lady Barons lead to 13 with 3:24 left in the half. In the last three minutes,
Madison Evans and
Tajahnae Wiggins dropped two points while Keonya Mincy put in four to lead the Lady Barons to a 6-2 stretch to end the half with a 46-26 lead over the Knights.
How It Happened | Third Quarter
Evans scored first for BPC, 30 seconds into the quarter. Both teams were locked in a 6-4 stretch over the next three minutes led by four points from Evans to give Brewton-Parker a 54-31 lead with 5:08 left on the clock.
Evans and Clay kept the pressure on the Knights by scoring two more points each to increase the lead to 27 with 3:55 on the clock. The third quarter ended with Evans leading an 8-5 stretch with six points to give the Lady Barons a 66-35 lead going into the last quarter of play.
How It Happened | Fourth Quarter
Middle Georgia struck first in the last quarter of play with a "and one" sparking a 9-0 run in the first two minutes. The Lady Barons responded with a 9-0 run of their own led by six points from McRae to give BPC a 75-44 lead with 5:15 left on the clock.
Wiggins kept the pressure on Middle Georgia by scoring four more points in a 4-3 stretch over just under two minutes. After a 3-3 stretch, the game ended with the Barons winning 82-50.

- BPC shot 39.7% (29-of-73) from the floor, 25% (8-of-32) from three, and 59.3% (16-of-27) from the foul line.
- Evans led the team with 26 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and five assists.
- Wiggins and McRae both put up 14 points, while Mincey dropped 10.
- Defensively, Brewton-Parker benefitted from 30 turnovers and recorded 15 steals.
- Middle Georgia secured the rebound battle 45-43.
