Baseball Opens Weekend at Faulkner with 8-4 Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Brewton-Parker Baseball traveled to Montgomery, Ala. for the first Southern States Athletic Conference road trip against Faulkner (Ala.), opening the weekend series on Friday night.

The Barons (10-8, 2-2 SSAC) fell to the Eagles (9-2, 4-0 SSAC) in an 8-4 loss after giving away six runs early.

How It Happened

The Barons left a runner on base in the first as Brandon Lawrence produced a one-out double, unfortunately, BPC was held scoreless. The Eagles responded with a fast start in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on five hits while leaving three runners on base as well.

BPC was held scoreless in the second despite leaving three runners on base. The Barons put a runner on base by a hit-by-pitch for Jacob Mantooth, a single to left field from Jack Morris, and another hit-by-pitch for Kendell Wade.

Faulkner added another run in the bottom of the second with an RBI single for a 4-0 advantage before following up with a pair of scores on two hits and a BPC error in the third inning for a 6-0 lead.

Brewton-Parker eventually found home plate in the fourth inning with a leadoff walk from Michael Son followed by a two-run homer from Mantooth, cutting the deficit down to four runs. The Barons followed in the fifth inning with another run as Son notched an RBI single to right field to score Lawrence who was walked and advanced on an error from failed pickoff.

The Barons pulled within a two-run game in the top of the seventh inning, with an RBI single from Kennard Dawson for a 6-4 ballgame. Faulkner responded with three hits which included a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, to extend to a four-run lead. The Eagles held BPC off in the ninth inning to win 8-4.

Inside the Statistics
  • Faulkner led 12-6 in hits.
  • A total of six Barons recorded hits while Mantooth led with the two-run home run and Lawrence led with a double.
  • Alex Muns (1-2) pitched for seven innings and received the loss. Muns struck out eight batters, walked two, and gave up five earned runs while allowing nine runs.
  • Dakota Davis finished the game, striking out a batter and giving up two runs on three hits.
