MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Baseball hosted No. 23-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon for a single nine-inning contest in Mount Vernon.
The Barons (10-7) clipped the Eagles (5-7) in a 6-5 win on home soil, utilizing another double-digit hitting performance to secure the 10th win of the season and 8th in non-conference play.
How It Happened
Reinhardt opened the game with an RBI single in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead before the Barons responded with four hits and an error from the Eagles in the bottom of the second to assist in pushing across three runs.
Michael Son notched a leadoff single to right field which was followed by a base hit from
Drew DeMasi.
Kyran Coleman advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt before
Jack Morris followed with a two-RBI single. As a courtesy runner for Morris,
J. Reid Phillips stole second and advanced to third on an error before scoring on an RBI single from
Kendell Wade for the 3-1 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, the Barons pieced together a single from Morris, a sacrifice bunt from Wade, and an RBI single from
Carson Kirby for a 4-1 advantage in the fourth. In the fifth inning, BPC put a pair of runners on with a walk and a hit-by-pitch before scoring with an RBI single from Coleman for a 5-1 lead.
The Eagles battled back into the game in the top of the sixth inning with one hit while taking advantage of two errors from the Barons to score three runs to make the game 5-4. The Barons responded at the bottom of the eighth inning with hits from Coleman and Wade before a walk from Kirby to load the bases. Lawrence was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to move the BPC lead to 6-4.
Reinhardt did not end without a fight, producing a two-out single and an RBI double to pull within one run. After the double, the Eagles advanced a runner on a wild pitch with a chance to tie but the Barons were able to shut the efforts down for the 6-5 victory.
Inside the Statistics
- Brewton-Parker led 11-5 in hits with three Barons notching two hits apiece, led by Morris with two hits and two RBIs.
- The BPC defense gave up three errors while the RU defense gave up one.
- Noah Gilbert (1-1) secured the win, pitching 2.0 innings of relief after Brandon Russell's start. Gilbert struck out one batter and walked two.
- Ryan Dopson picked up his first save of the season in the final inning of play.
