MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball welcomed Point (Ga.) to Gillis Gymnasium for the last home game of the season on Wednesday night.
The Lady Barons (15-11, 7-9 SSAC) slipped against the Skyhawks (11-12, 6-9 SSAC) in a 65-52 defeat.
"We aren't a very good basketball team at the moment," Head Coach
Steve Edwards said. "It's on me to figure out a way for us to win games. We haven't been in this space in a while, but we will figure it out."
"The team works hard at practice, and they have good attitudes," Edwards said. "The effort is there, and I believe we will find a way to finish strong."
How It Happened | First Quarter
After nearly two scoreless minutes, the Lady Barons struck first with a jumper from
Madison Evans to take a 2-0 lead with 8:19 on the clock. Over the next three minutes, the Skyhawks picked up a 15-5 stretch to take an eight-point lead over the Lady Barons with 3:54 left in the quarter.
In a slow last few minutes,
Keonya Mincey hit a trey at the 3:04 mark to cut the deficit to five while Point finished with a bucket at the 2:16 mark and the 0:22 mark for a 20-10.
How It Happened | Second Quarter
Mincey put up a jumper to start the second quarter for Brewton-Parker. Point responded with a 5-2 stretch to increase their lead to 11 with 7:33 on the clock. The Lady Barons put the game back within two with 5:33 left in the half with the help from
Drexelle Ward,
Angel McRae, Evans, and Mincey.
Over the next four minutes, Mincey gathered three more points in an 8-3 Skyhawk stretch, putting BPC in a 33-26 deficit with a minute and a half left. The half ended with a 6-6 stretch led by two points from Evans, Mincey, and McRae putting the Lady Barons behind 39-32 going into halftime.
How It Happened | Third Quarter
Evans kicked off the third quarter with a jumper to cut into the Skyhawks lead. After Point hit two treys, Brewton-Parker took nine unanswered points to only be behind 45-43 with just over five minutes on the clock.
The last five minutes saw a 7-3 stretch for Point, putting BPC in a 52-46 deficit at the end of the third quarter.
How It Happened | Fourth Quarter
The Skyhawks struck first in the last quarter, with four unanswered points. Evans ended the scoring streak with a jumper to make the score 56-48 with 7:54 left in the game. A trey from Point put the Lady Barons into an 11-point hole with 6:24 remaining in the game.
After two scoreless minutes, BPC broke the silence with a free throw from McRae. A minute later the Skyhawks put up a shot from the charity stripe, followed by a three from
A'Aliyah Clay to cut the deficit to eight with just over three minutes left. In the last minute of the game, the Skyhawks put up five free throws, dropping BPC 65-52.

- BPC shot 23.8% (15-of-63) from the floor, 11.8% (4-of-34) from three, and 60% (18-of-30) from the foul line.
- Evans led the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
- McRae snagged 13 rebounds and scored seven points.
- Mincey picked up 14 points while notching four rebounds.
- Defensively, Brewton-Parker benefitted from 12 turnovers and recorded five steals.
- Point secured the rebound battle 53-47.
