MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Basketball played host to No. 20-ranked Mobile (Ala.) on Saturday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Ga.
The Barons (8-17, 4-13 SSAC) struggled against the Rams (20-5, 13-4 SSAC) in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup in Gillis Gymnasium.
How It Happened | First Half
Neither team managed to score for the opening couple of minutes until the 18:25 mark as Mobile produced a free throw.
Domanic Betancourt led the scoring for the Barons, scoring all five points in the first seven minutes of play as the Rams began with an 11-5 run.
Lance Smith pulled Brewton-Parker within two with a pair of scores, as there were less than 12 minutes to play in the half. Mobile put together a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to pull away to a 23-11 lead with just over seven minutes remaining.
Both teams battled back and forth in the final six and a half minutes as the Rams held a narrow 15-14 edge over the Barons in scoring.
Jordan Johnson led the Barons' stretch with five points while four others scored two points each to close the half with a 38-25 deficit.
How It Happened | Second Half
Mobile opened with two buckets for a 42-25 advantage within the first three minutes of the second half. The Barons pulled the deficit down to 10 three times within two minutes but were not able to keep the Rams away from reaching the bottom of the basket. Brewton-Parker struggled to keep up with the visitors as they were held to a double-digit deficit for the remainder of the game.
The Rams outscored Brewton-Parker 36-29 in the second half and shot for nearly 47% from the field while the Barons were struggling to shoot for 32.4%.
Zailan Blue led the half with eight points and was followed by six points from Betancourt.

- Brewton-Parker shot for 29.4% (20-of-68) from the floor, 20% (4-of-20) from three, and 66.7% (10-15) from the foul line.
- Betancourt led the scoring for BPC with a season-high 13 points and was followed by 12 from Blue.
- Mobile dominated the glass 50-32 in rebounds.
- The BPC defense secured nine steals with Smith snagging four off of the 18 turnovers from the Rams.
