Lady Barons Fall Short Against Lions

MOUNT VERNON, Ga - In a disappointing non-conference loss, the Lady Barons fell to the Freed-Hardeman Lions 43-65 on December 14, 2024. The Lady Barons had looked to bounce back after a tough loss to Bethel on December 13 but failed to finish at the rim. The Lady Barons have struggled to finish at the rim this season.

The Lady Barons struggled to keep pace, trailing behind from the first half with a halftime score of 14-29. Despite their efforts, they couldn't catch up, eventually falling with a final score of 43-65. The Lions extended their largest lead to 23 points during the third quarter.

Jakayla Peeples stood out for the Lady Barons with 22 points, followed by Tori Dorsey, who added 8 points. Despite the loss, the Lady Barons saw Angel McRae hit a career milestone for her 1000 rebound at Brewton-Parker.

Head Coach Steve Edwards expressed concern over the team's performance. "We didn't play well today. Offensively, we couldn't buy a basket. Our issue right now is finishing around the basket and shooting," Coach Edwards commented. He indicated that the team tested different lineups, "We went deep into the bench today to try and find some answers. I think we are going to look a little more to our youth." Despite the current struggles, he remains optimistic about overcoming the tough phase, "We are in a tough grind right now, but we will work through it."

Looking ahead, the Lady Barons look to regroup and re-find their rhythm as they prepare to face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on December 17, 2024, at the Gillis Gymnasium. The team currently holds a season record of 5-7 and 1-1 in conference play, aiming to improve as they progress further into the season and continue their quest to make it back to the National Tournament.
