Lady Barons Fall to Wildcats

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons continue their quest to return to the national tournament again this year, but they have a difficult road ahead. Knowing their end goals, the Lady Barons looked for opportunities to play the best. They had that chance, taking on the 16th-best team in the NAIA in Bethel (TN). Despite a strong effort, they were unable to steal a win, falling just short in a 58-69 loss.

Brewton-Parker found itself trailing at halftime with a score of 28-38. In the second half, standout performances from Sydney Beasley, who scored a team-leading 24 points, including a crucial 3-pointer late in the game, and Andranique Stewart, who contributed 15 points with several key layups, fueled the Lady Barons' comeback attempt. Chasity Degale continued her season with another consistent performance, scoring 11 for the Lady Barons. Despite being a freshman, Degale continues to be a key contributor for the Lady Barons.

Head Coach Steve Edwards noted the team's robust defensive effort and the valuable experience gained from playing against a top-tier team. "Today was one of our best defensive performances. We had numerous opportunities to tie or take the lead. Bethel is a top 16 team nationally, and they are well-coached," Edwards said. He highlighted the importance of executing under pressure, "Our preparation was good, and we executed well the majority of the game. It's important to make plays late, and Bethel made a few more plays today."

Looking ahead, the Lady Barons are quickly back in action as they face Freed-Hardeman University tomorrow, also at the Eagles' Nest. With a season record of five wins and six losses, Coach Edwards expressed optimism about the team's response in the upcoming game, highlighting the importance of playing tough competition to improve. The Lady Barons are also on history watch as Angel McRae chases 1000 career rebounds and sits at 994 after the game. As the Lady Barons prepare to bounce back, the Brewton-Parker faithful remain hopeful for a strong performance to turn the season around.
