Lady Barons Clinch Convincing Victory Over Pioneers at Bridges Arena

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a dominant display of basketball prowess, the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons emerged victorious against Spartanburg Methodist College's Pioneers, securing a substantial 84-58 win on November 23, 2024, at Bridges Arena in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Lady Barons, led by standout performances from Andranique Stewart, Destanee Wright, and Chasity Degale, established an early lead with a halftime score of 47-36. Stewart was particularly impressive, contributing 18 points and 13 rebounds, leading her team in both scoring and rebounds. Wright and Degale added 12 and 11 points, respectively, solidifying Brewton-Parker's offensive efforts. Other notable contributions came from Tia Floyd, who managed 10 points and 4 rebounds, adding to the team's overall strength.

Coach Steve Edwards praised his team's efforts, especially in the second half, which saw the Lady Barons tighten up their defense. "We defended really well in the second half. We held them to 10 points in the third and 12 in the fourth. I like the effort we are giving on both sides of the ball. We need to clean up a few things in order to take that next step. This group allows me to coach them hard and I like the way each player is responding," Edwards said.

The victory boosts the Lady Barons' record to 5-3, including a 1-0 start in their league. As they prepare to face the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Ga., on November 26, the Lady Barons look to build on their current momentum and further improve their season record.
