Lady Barons Roll Over Webber International

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Basketball team continued their road trip with a bounce-back win versus Webber International to improve (1-1). The Lady Barons defeated the Warriors 69-62. The Lady Barons started the game trailing the Warriors before tying the game up at 14 in the first quarter. The Lady Barons never gave the lead-up again after that point. The Lady Barons had an off-shooting night from beyond the arc, going only 3-15, but they could control the glass all night long and get their first win.

Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts on how his team played. "We were not a good team tonight. We didn't play with a sense of urgency or consistency. We have a bunch of new pieces, and I have to make sure each of them meets our standard of play each night. We normally get everyone's best shot and we need to be prepared to respond.

We found a way to win tonight but we have a long way to go before we are legitimate national contenders. We will learn from this weekend, and we will continue to improve."

First Quarter

The Lady Barons started the game, trailing in the first quarter, but managed to tie it twice before taking a lead that they never gave up. Chasity Degale led the Barons in scoring for the first quarter, going 4-6 from the field and 1-2 at the charity stripe; she combined that with four rebounds to help the Lady Barons make their way back into the game after a slow start to the game. The Lady Barons struggled shooting in the first quarter, going 8-22 from the field as a team and 1-6 from beyond the arc. The Lady Barons excelled at cleaning up the glass and picking up 17 rebounds in the first to compensate for their shooting struggles.

Second Quarter

The Second quarter saw the Lady Barons with the lead and built it up trying to prevent the Warriors from having any chance to get back into the game. Angel McRae led the Lady Barons in the second quarter with eight points, five rebounds, and one assist going 4-7 from the field. The Lady Barons went 9-16 as a team from the field and went 2-5 from beyond the arc. The Lady Barons picked up another 13 rebounds as a team to add to their dominance on the glass.

Third Quarter

The Lady Barons struggled to score in the third, scoring 2-14 from the field as a team and only 14 points. Destanee Wright led the Lady Barons with five points and a rebound in the third quarter.
