Lady Barons Fly Over Faulkner

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Volleyball team faced off against the Faulkner Eagles on Saturday in their fourth game in five days this week. The Lady Barons have been in catch-up mode, making up several games this past week that were canceled due to Hurricane Helene. The Lady Barons won three of their four games this week, including two conference wins. The Lady Barons gutted out a 3-2 win over the Eagles in a thrilling five-set match. The Lady Barons won against Faulkner, breaking a 26-game losing streak. The Lady Barons won the first set before dropping the next two but dug deep and won the final two sets to win the match.

Coach Obed Quiles shared his thoughts on the great win. "I am proud of my team and the way they fought today. They dug deep, stayed together, and found a way to pull off the upset. I am very proud of how they responded after the loss to Mobile last night and came ready to play today. Especially with how many games we have played this week, I am proud of how they performed and hope to have the team rest up tomorrow and Monday before we get back to the grind,"

First Set

The Lady Barons started the match, trading points back and forth for the entire match. Both teams tied eight times and saw five different lead changes, and the Barons trailed by as many as five points at one point during the set, being down 16-11. The Lady Barons had 16 kills and only four errors in the first set, with a .293 hitting percentage, which helped carry them to the first set, winning 25-22 over the Eagles.

Second Set

The Eagles struck back in another nail-biting set, taking the win 25-23 over the Lady Barons. The Lady Barons managed to play a strong set with 13 kills and only five errors but still traded points with the Eagles. Both teams traded leads back and forth and ended up tied at 22 before the Eagles took the lead and refused to let the Lady Barons get it back to take set two.

Third Set

The third set saw much of the previous two sets with another close back-and-forth match that ended with the Eagles taking the third set 25-22. The Lady Barons had seven errors and only ten kills in this set, dropping their hitting percentage to .081, but it was enough for the Eagles to capitalize. The teams tied at 15 before Faulkner took the lead and never lost it again in the set, remaining in the driver's seat.

Fourth Set

The fourth set saw the Lady Barons rally and gut out a tough 25-23 victory over the Eagles, tie the game at two sets apiece, and force a fifth and final set. The Lady Barons had 13 kills and eight errors with a .119 hitting percentage and kept their pace of play even with the Eagles. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and kept the league for most of the game until the Lady Barons tied it up at 22 and again at 23. Once the Lady Barons tied the match at 23, they won the next two straight points to win the set

Fifth Set

In the fifth decisive and final set, the Lady Barons had nine kills and only five errors, with a .119 hitting percentage. The Lady Barons got out to an early lead and traded points with the Eagles before taking the lead at five-four and keeping it until Faulkner tied it once again at ten, eleven, and twelve before the Lady Barons took control and won three straight points to end the game.
