MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Volleyball team faced off against the Mobile University Rams Friday evening. Despite winning the first set 25-20, they were unable to hold off Mobile's offense and lost three straight sets to lose 3-1. The Lady Barons struggled heavily in the second and third sets but managed to give the Rams a run for their money in the fourth set.
Coach Obed Quiles shared his thoughts after the tough loss. "We played a good game. Our serve received in sets two and three let us down. But in the fourth set, we found a way to get better. We are getting better at the right time, and that's a good thing for us. We need to get ready to play another game tomorrow,"
First Set
The Lady Barons started the match by trading points with Mobile but capitalized on seven errors from Mobile. The Lady Barons had 15 kills and only five errors, giving them a hitting percentage of .244, which allowed them to steal the first set.
Second Set
The Lady Barons strayed from their style of play and tried to do too much in the second set. With seven errors and only six kills, they struggled to get anything going. They went down by as much as ten points and were never able to recover from the deficit. The Lady Barons lost the second set 25-14.
Third Set
The Lady Barons still struggled with their play and had the exact same number of kills and errors as in the second set, while Mobile contained their mistakes to just five. Once again, the Lady Barons went down by a large margin and failed to come back, losing the third set 25-11.
Fourth Set
The fourth set saw the Lady Barons get back to their play in the first set. The Lady Barons managed to force a closely contested set but came up short, losing 25-11. The Lady Barons struggled again to minimize their mistakes and only had nine kills in the final set.
