MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Volleyball team set program history yesterday with their first-ever conference win against the Life University Running Eagles, winning in four sets. The Lady Barons clawed out their first conference win of the season in front of the rowdy home crowd. The Life Running Eagles managed to steal the first set, but the Lady Barons buckled down, winning the next three sets to claim their seventh win of the season. That's the first time since 2012 that the Volleyball team has won seven games.
Coach Obed Quiles shared his thoughts on the great win. "Very proud of how the team battled back after losing the first set. Thank you to all of the fans for coming out and supporting us. Their voices really made a difference. We hope to carry this energy into our next match on Friday. Let's Go Barons,"
First Set
The Lady Barons started the match by falling behind and losing the first set to Life 25-18. The Lady Barons did their best but could not stop the Running Eagles and their 14 kills and five errors to the Lady Barons' nine kills. Life jumped out to an early lead and never gave it back to steal the first set.Â
Second Set
The Lady Barons traded points back and forth with the Running Eagles until it was tied at eight apiece. After that, the Lady Barons strung along a five-point run to take the lead and held it until Life tied it back up at 23. Both teams went back and forth, tying it up at 24, 25, and 26 before the Lady Barons managed to get two straight points and win the final set 28-26. The Lady Barons had even nine kills and nine errors in the second set.Â

Third Set
The Lady Barons took control of the match with ten kills and only three errors in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Barons jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and never gave up the lead for the rest of the set, storming off to a 25-18 win.Â
Fourth Set
The fourth set saw the Lady Barons keep the momentum rolling, and despite only having eight kills and four errors for a hitting percentage of .160, they managed to capitalize off the Running Eagles' six errors. Life got off to an early lead, but after tying the match up at nine apiece, the Lady Barons got the lead and kept Life from getting back into it. Riding the wave of energy from their home fans, the Lady Barons soared to victory 25-20 to claim their first conference win.Â
