MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Volleyball team grabbed their sixth win of the season against Toccoa Falls College in four sets. The Lady Barons jumped out to an early lead and won the first set 25-15 before taking the second set 25-17. Toccoa Falls battled back and caused the Lady Barons to stumble in the third set, losing 19-25 before rallying to win the fourth and final set 25-15. The Lady Barons looked more like the team that had started the year by sweeping their first four opponents.
First Set
The Lady Barons started the match strong, minimizing errors that had been giving them problems the last few matches. They had ten kills and only three errors, sporting a .241 hitting percentage to start off the match. The Lady Barons capitalized on the eleven errors from the Screaming Eagles. The Lady Barons controlled the match, never trailing by more than a point at any given time during the first set.
Second Set
The Lady Barons came out firing again with 15 kills and only five errors with a .257 hitting percentage to force the Screaming Eagles back on their heels. Toccoa managed to minimize their errors, but the kills from Dori Serrano and Kavlyn Hartmann prevented them from mounting a comeback. After trading points back and forth, the Lady Barons tied the game at 15 apiece. The Lady Barons took over, rattled off seven straight points, and only gave up two points to Toccoa before ending the set at 25-17.
Third Set
The Lady Barons allowed the Screaming Eagles numerous mistakes and opportunities to stay in the match, and Toccoa capitalized on all of them to win the third set. The Lady Barons had an even eleven kills and eleven errors for a disappointing .000 hitting percentage.
Fourth Set
The fourth set saw the Lady Barons bounce back to the team they were during the first two sets. They had 13 kills and only six errors, with a hitting percentage of .206. The Lady Barons traded points for the first six possessions of the match before taking the lead and never giving it back up. After taking the lead 4-3, the Lady Barons never allowed the Screaming Eagles a real chance to get back into the game, scoring seven of the following ten points to expand their lead to 11-5. Toccoa got the score within four at 15-11 but was never able to close the gap, and the Lady Barons rolled their way to victory.
