Lady Barons Rout ABAC

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons Soccer team hosted Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies Thursday and recorded their second win of the season. The explosive scoring performance for the Lady Barons was led by Kathleen (Kat) Fisher. Kat led the Lady Barons with an impressive hat-trick, completing the comeback after falling two-nil to start the game. The Lady Barons started the match with three near misses, creating great scoring chances.

Coach Philip Borde shared his thoughts on the great victory. "As always, I give God thanks for the opportunity to compete in this sport. The response from our girls in the first ten minutes and then the second half of the match was exactly what we were asking for as a coaching staff. It was a blessing to the mental fortitude shown after going down two goals. Overall, I am pleased with the performance. Now we must regroup and get prepared to go again this weekend,"

First Half

The Lady Barons started the match with great anticipation and passing, creating several chances for Marielys Rosales, but they could not capitalize on their chances in the first four minutes. The Lady Barons had a communication breakdown that led to them conceding the game's first goal in the fifth minute. Fifteen minutes later, ABAC capitalized again to take a commanding two-goal lead. Where in the past the Lady Barons might have fallen into defeat early, they rallied and kept creating chances and five minutes later cut the lead in half with a fantastic goal from Kat Fisher with a great assist by Amira El Mansouri. The teams went into the half with the Lady Barons' confidence growing that they were meant to be in the game and could have easily left the pitch with the lead had several opportunities gone their way.

Second Half

The Lady Barons came out firing on all cylinders and capitalized in the first minute and a half of the second half, with the equalizer coming from Marielys Rosales and assisted by Juliana Gallardo. One minute later, Kat Fisher capitalized on a great ball from Anna Farris to take the lead for the first time in the match. Both teams went back and forth, and Nikki Clark found the back of the net in the 72nd minute on a rebound off a great shot from Amira El Mansouri for her second assist of the night. Four minutes later, Kat Fisher completed the Hat-trick to put the bow on the night with another spectacular pass from Amira El Mansouri.
