MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker Men's Wrestling program returned to Gillis Gymnasium for one final dual in familiar territory, hosting (RV) St. Thomas (Fla.) on Friday afternoon.
The Barons (2-6) fell short in a narrow 29-28 defeat to the Bobcats (5-5), dropping the Appalachian Athletic Conference dual in Mount Vernon.
Friday's contest began with a pin (1:14) from the Bobcats over
Gabriel Evans in the 125-lb bout before the visitors added five additional team points to the tally, downing
Keyshaun Taylor in a 17-1 tech fall in the 133-lb match.
BPC earned six free points in the 141-lb match, as
Conner Wright received a forfeit win. In the 149-lb match,
Kullum Irvin was pinned (1:37), giving up six team points before the Barons managed to respond in the 157-lb match with a 19-5 major decision from
Bradley Owens.
After a forfeit at 165, Brewton-Parker managed to earn 12 straight points with a pin (2:46) from
Justin Grant at 174 and a forfeit win for
Jesus Grijalva at 184.
Charlie Henkel moved up to 197 but was pinned (1:52) to move the score 29-22 in favor of St. Thomas before
Wilkinson Saul finished the dual with a pin (1:58) of his own to give BPC 28 team points, falling just shy of the Bobcats.
Brewton-Parker returns to the mats tomorrow as they travel to Cleveland, Ga. for the AAC Duals.
