Overtime Efforts Come Up Short for (RV) Lady Barons

WEST POINT, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Basketball continued Southern States Athletic Conference play on the road at Point (Ga.) on Wednesday night.

The (RV) Lady Barons (12-5, 4-3 SSAC) fell short to the Skyhawks (9-5, 5-2 SSAC) despite a tough late-game effort that overlapped into overtime play in an 84-77 defeat in West Point, Georgia.

"I'm proud of our girls," said Head Coach Steve Edwards. "We fought and had a few opportunities to win but didn't do enough to secure a win on the road."

"We have to find a way to get it done, and I believe we will," Edwards mentioned. "It is on me to figure that out. We will get back to work and prepare for Saturday."

How It Happened | First Quarter

After an opening bucket from Point, Le'la Wright and the Lady Barons leveled the score at the 9:10 mark for the first BPC score of the game. Nearly two minutes later, the Skyhawks held a 5-3 advantage.

Madison Evans produced three points from the charity stripe in the following three minutes of action to reclaim the lead for the Lady Barons with a 6-5 edge, leaving 4:15 on the clock. Point responded well in the final few minutes with a 13-4 run to close out the quarter with an 18-10 lead.

How It Happened | Second Quarter

Evans netted an early score to cut the BPC deficit to two possessions as part of a 6-2 stretch from the Lady Barons to move the Point lead to 20-16 with 8:37 remaining. BPC battled to get the deficit down to five points at the 6:53 mark with a trey from Keonya Mincey, yet the Skyhawks continued to take the next few minutes to hold a two-score advantage or better before advancing to a 34-23 lead with 3:05.

A layup from Evans and another three points coming from Mincey pulled the deficit back down to six points with less than 90 seconds left. Point closed the half with back-to-back threes for a 6-2 run, leading 40-30 at the break.

How It Happened | Third Quarter

Tajahnae Wiggins took matters into her hands to open the third quarter with an "and-one" play at 9:07 and followed up with a layup at the 7:22 mark to cut the BPC deficit to 40-35. After a quick score from point followed by a response from Wright at 6:03, the Skyhawks went on a run.

Point returned to a double-figure edge, scoring six unanswered in the paint to lead 48-37 after taking nearly two minutes off the clock doing so. A three-pointer from A'Aliyah Clay and a layup from Wiggins pulled the Lady Barons back to a six-point deficit.
BPC narrowly edged out the Skyhawks in the final two minutes with a 4-3 stretch led solely by Clay to move the host's advantage to 51-46. Brewton-Parker outscored Point 16-11 in the third, fighting their way back into the game.

How It Happened | Fourth Quarter

The Lady Barons opened the fourth quarter with a strong momentum-shifting 9-0 run to claim a 55-51 lead with 6:32 left to play in regulation. The Skyhawks had yet another solid response, scoring five points to reclaim a 56-55 lead.

Both teams traded blows and kept the score under a two-possession lead with the Skyhawks shifting to a five-point, 66-61 lead with 2:20 on the clock. A clutch trey from Mincey and an "and-one" from Evans flipped the score in favor of BPC with a 67-66 lead before Point knocked down a late-game free throw to force overtime.
