MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Volleyball took on Columbia (S.C.) in Gillis Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
After dropping the first set, the Lady Barons (2-1) would go on to capture three-straight sets over the Koalas (1-1) securing a win for the 2023 home opener.
"I'm proud of the team for playing hard all four sets," Head Coach Obed Quiles. "Adjusting to the changes we made in the second set helped to shift the momentum of the game."
"I think when we started serving tough and playing good defense, it made the game easier for our offense," Quiles mentioned.
How It Happened
After slipping early, Brewton-Parker battled their way back to the opening set but the Koalas outlasted the Lady Barons for a 25-21 victory.
BPC battled from behind a solid deficit from Columbia and eventually extended the second set to level the match at one apiece with a 28-26 set win.
Brewton-Parker started to find a groove as winnings ways continued with the Lady Barons pulling away late in the third set to secure a 2-1 lead in the match, winning 25-17.
The Lady Barons carried the momentum from the last two sets into the fourth, and after a hard-fought battle BPC outlasted Columbia sealing the fate of the Koalas with five-straight points to win 25-16 in the final set.
Inside The Statistics
- As a team, BPC outmatched Columbia 44-33 in kills while also leading 12-9 in aces.
- Brewton-Parker also led 41-32 in total assists for the match.
- Kinsley Jordan led the team in kills with 11 while also totaling a .219 attacking percentage.
- Defensively, Alana Garcia led BPC with a game-high 19 digs which gave the Lady Barons a 73-61 advantage in total digs.
- Brewton-Parker finished the evening with a pair of Lady Barons gathering double-digit assists as Abigail Snyder notched 17 followed by Katy Mathis with 13.
- R'Eyahn Shaffer led with four service aces followed by a trio of Lady Barons with two apiece.
